Day Two!

My first full day in Atlanta, or to be specific: the town of Roswell, just north of Atlanta.

Got settled into my uncle's house a little. I'm going to be here for at least a few days until I find an apartment (though they've made it very clear that I'm welcome to stay for the whole school year if that's what I want).

So I go to open up one of my bags and this is what I find: the TSA had opened my bag for manual screening. Which would normally be fine: the things in my bag were far from illegal or dangerous. HOWEVER, in that bag was my box of jewelry making supplies. And they didn't pack it back up properly. THERE WERE BEADS ALL OVER MY SUITCASE!!!!
It took me AN HOUR AND A HALF to clean it all up! And all I did was put the loose beads (and jump rings and crimp beads and clasps and eye pins) in a plastic baggie; I haven't even attempted to go through it yet! I was so pissed I actually logged onto the TSA website and looked up how to file a claim; it ended up not being worth the effort, but the point is that I was upset enough to try.

I spent the rest of the morning and afternoon doing stuff on my computer for school, but you'll find that boring so I won't go into detail. However, I will say that I was excited to learn that there's a Trader Joe's right by the building where my classes are! Now I know I won't have a problem getting good food and dairy-free cheese! Yay!

I finally got to meet Jennifer (FYI: I'm going to be using fake names on this blog. This is the internet after all). I met Jennifer through the school's off-campus housing website. She and Veronica and I have been texting about rooming together for about a month now.  Anyway: Jennifer and I toured an apartment together. She was nice. The place we toured: not so much. It looked nice, and I'm not entirely sure what set it off, but I got that feeling in my gut that something was wrong with the place. We applied anyway, because we desperately need a place (Veronica doesn't have anywhere else to stay, so she can't even come to Atlanta until we get a place). I've found another place to look into tomorrow, so we'll see what happens there. (Honestly: staying rent-free at my uncle's is beginning to look better and better.)

[Which reminds me: my uncle Nick ran away from home when he was thirteen. My dad has told some interesting stories about him, and until I got here I didn't believe him that Nick was the best of his brothers. Nick lives with his girlfriend Sarah, they've been together for thirty years.]

We went out to Chinese for dinner. A little place called Bamboo China Bistro. The food and service were really good, and the ambiance was fantastic; it was kind of a shame that the place was empty on a Friday night. My tangerine chicken was amazing; it looked amazing too, the picture doesn't do it justice.

Well that's all that there is to say. Now to go to bed so I can see what tomorrow brings. And remember:

"Trust others, but still keep your eyes open."

Day One!

So the first post on the new blog. There's nothing much to say (ok there's a lot to say, but that's for a different post).

I flew into Atlanta yesterday. I got to fly first class, that was new. But in all honesty it wasn't really worth it. I'm petite so the extra space was unnecessary, and airplane food tastes the exact same in first class as it does in coach. In fact it's probably better in coach: everything was actual glass in first class, and I'm such a klutz that I was scared I'd break something. Sure I got to board the plane first, but the plane takes off at the same time whether I'm the first one on it or the last one; either way it's still a lot of waiting. It might have made a difference on one of those 18-hour, across a major ocean flights, but as neither of my flights was more than six hours the conclusion I'll go with is that it's not worth the expense. (For those who didn't know already: I only did it because I got a deal on it.)

There's not much else to say about the flights. I watched Mulan in Japanese. As well as the first three quarters of the movie Splash. And my lunch got left on the plane in an airsick bag.

My uncle (whom I had never met before) picked me up from the airport and took me to his house. They had cleaned out the spare room for me and had even bought sheets and a nice air mattress. They took me out to dinner too, but I was too tired and homesick to really enjoy it.

So that's day one. Stay tuned for day two! Because it's literally coming in half an hour, [or however long it takes me to write it ;) ].
